A story behind

Tokyo, with its 36 million inhabitants, is the most populous city globally. It hides many facets and differences, yet it maintains a cultural identity and tradition that is strongly tangible in everyday actions and interactions with others and the city itself. I felt a sense of detachment and unity at the same time, a feeling that's hard to express.

During my short time and various walks in the heart of the city and its surroundings, I observed their behaviors. In their manners, civic sense, and respect for others' identity, my presence and curious gaze seemed unnoticed, and my camera's passage completely invisible. I dared to invade their space and captured some of their actions, focusing on transportation, a symbol of extreme pride and an example of precision and efficiency recognized worldwide. It's a hub for constant movements of people of all kinds and ages, alone or with companions. It's not uncommon to see children returning from school unaccompanied by adults, confidently navigating the subway tunnels and heading home.

I visited Tokyo and Kyoto in early November 2023, in a crisp weather that felt like late summer, with a still vibrant light penetrating and illuminating its inhabitants through the small spaces or gaps that a densely packed megalopolis left between skyscrapers and other giant urban structures.
