During the pandemic, I witnessed how semi-lockdown measures reshaped social interactions and heightened our sense of personal space. Scenes of masked colleagues, solitary diners, and protesters highlighted the complex impact of distance on human connection.

In Sainte-Anne de Guadeloupe, Carnival became a vibrant blend of celebration and protest, sparked by rising electricity bills and outages. Caught by surprise as it passed my island stay, I grabbed my camera and joined the rhythmic, unified procession.

Tourists fascinate me, wandering through unfamiliar places, both captivated and clumsy, often behaving as if the world were theirs to consume. But it’s their bold, curious outfits liberated from judgment, that truly reveal the surreal freedom of being away.
